GHUTV has kept me motivated through this journey! I don’t feel alone – the private Facebook Group is amazing and helps me to share whatever happening in my life in a secure way. It’s excited to know that every Monday I’ll get a new LIVE workout just like belonging to a gym. I’m glad to have the chance to practice yoga, HIIT, cardio, pilates, circuits, and step!
GHUTV has kept me motivated in more ways than one. I absolutely love the instructors. You can tell each of you, loves to get up every morning to teach others about a healthier lifestyle. I can see the joy on your faces. I also, appreciate how real you are. I love when the instructors say “I’m not perfect” and you give yourself and others grace to learn by doing.
GHUTV is an inspirational and judgment-free community with healthy, easy-to-make recipes and exciting workouts that allow me to improve my body both physically and emotionally. I love the variety of the workouts I can do in the comfort of my own living room! The constant support from the GHUTV trainers and other members on the GHUTV Facebook group allows me to share my progress and readily receive advice that help keep me on track and hold me accountable to achieve my fitness goals.
Several years ago I gained about 37 pounds. It just literally crept up on me! I began to feel miserable. I found myself hiding from pictures, not going out to events because I felt so bad about myself… losing my confidence. Then I realized this behavior wasn’t my normal personality! I had never been this heavy, except for when I was pregnant (and I was able to take that weight off). I was getting depressed and feeling tired all the time.
Earlier this year I had to have surgery for varicose veins. The extra weight on my body wasn’t good for me. That was my wake up call. Initially I couldn’t work out. But slowly I was walking and using my treadmill to get some workouts in. Mother’s Day 2016 I decided it was time to take things a bit more seriously. I started reading articles on Get Healthy U and I started incorporating some of the info into my workouts and my eating habits. Then I signed up for Get Healthy U TV and started working out 150 minutes a week. The Total Body HIIT workout motivated me by showing me that I’m stronger than I thought I was! I now have the energy to hike, walk, and even run!!
I’ve never considered myself overweight. Out of shape, maybe? Even at my thinnest? Yes! But recently, I realized I was BOTH and had been in denial for a while. Something inside said “enough is enough” of not feeling like myself. My numbers at my annual checkups were also beginning to show concerns at the young age of 46! I HAD to do something.
My story is pretty simple. Until my late 30s, I was never overweight. I’ve never eaten well or exercised unless trying to lose weight after pregnancies. Eleven years ago I started gaining a lot and ended up at 174 pounds. I changed my diet, my husband bought me a treadmill and I walked off 38 pounds in four months. Pretty easy. Three years ago, I was 47 years old, 5’7″, 143 pounds, and happy with the way I looked in a two-piece swimsuit.
In early 2015 I was about 10 pounds above my ideal weight, but I felt healthy. I was an inconsistent exerciser but seemed to be maintaining my weight. I love fruits and vegetables but also indulged in sweets too often. Late February 2015 I went to my doctor for a check up, and tests followed. On March 5, 2015, at 46, I was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer. Three weeks later I had a double mastectomy and lymph nodes removed.
I guess I was eating too many refined carbs, because the start of this journey is when I was diagnosed with Pre-Diabetes in mid-October 2015. I love sweets, especially chocolate sweets, and pretty much ate them whenever I felt like it. A lot of my carb choices were white: rice, potatoes, and bread, for example. Plus, I’ve always been a picky vegetable-eater.
