If you’re new to kettlebell training, this quick kettlebell for beginners tutorial will show you what to expect in Amy Dixon’s kettlebell workouts. The kettlebell is a unique piece of equipment that Russian athletes have been using for centuries to make basic exercises more dynamic and powerful. If you’ve been told to never have momentum when exercising, these workouts are the exception—using acceleration and deceleration in the body, kettlebell training helps you condition, tone, and burn calories.

First up in your kettlebell for beginners tutorial, Amy will take you through the fundamental holds you’ll be using in these workouts. The first one is called the bell embrace. On the bell itself, you have the horn and the base of the bell. With bell embrace, both hands grip the bell tightly so you have more control over it. You’ll perform this hold for moves like Russian twists. The next hold Amy will display is the bell back, where you’ll hold the horn of the bell. You can have it in this position in a number of different ways, which Amy will display. These holds are utilized in moves like squats.

The last hold Amy will show you is just holding the top of the bell, which you’ll utilize for moves like push-ups, where you have one hand on top of the bell and the other on the floor. For moves like this, the hand that’s elevated on top of the bell will be working a lot harder and strengthening those muscles.

Next, Amy will go over a few of the moves you can expect to see in her workouts, such as the double arm sling, Russian twists, and the chop. Amy will provide plenty of instruction and encouragement along the way to gear you up for your full-throttle kettlebell workouts in this kettlebell for beginners tutorial. So who’s ready to raise some bell?

All exercises you perform are your own responsibility and you perform them at your own risk. Always seek the advice of a physician or other qualified health provider before starting any physical exercise, fitness or wellness regiments of any kind.
