I have problems to get down deep enough and if I manage I have the feeling my muscles get hard. Any tips how to improve, maybe preparation exercises before or workouts that are helping me to improve?

      Hi Kirsten,
Here is what our expert had to say:
So I hope I am not misunderstanding you, but when you say your muscles get “hard”, that is exactly what is supposed to happen when you get down low in a squat. The muscles should contract and feel hard. Is that what you mean? It should feel like a challenge, especially if this is new to you.

One thing you can do prior to trying a deep squat is to stretch or foam roll Here is great video that will help you:

It is good to foam roll for recovery , but it would also help you get a deeper squat if you foam roll your quads and hamstrings in advance

other than that I think you are doing it right, but just not used to the feeling. Keep it up
